T10b : 3 days / 2 nights
                         (El Corazon & Ilinizas)



Day 1      After an early breakfast we leave Quito at 6 a.m. and head south on the Pan American Highway towards Machachi, where we arrive after 1 ½ hour. Arriving there we take the turn of the main road opposite the town and head towards Aloasi, the village located at the foot of El Corazon. We start out at the old train station and the first 4 hours takes us through Paramo vegetation till we reach the base of the mountain, where we put up our first camp. From then on it is a scramble through sand, gravel and rocks to the top, which we reach after another hour. After enjoying the views, we descend down to our tents.

Day 2      In the morning we start our hike towards the base of Iliniza. We move along the ridge which connects the two mountains and climb then up to the parking spot La Virgen at 3900m. There among the polylepsi trees we put up aour second campsite.

Day 3      After an early breakfast we climb to Iliniza Norte which we reach in 3 to 4 hours. After enjoying the great views from there we return to our camp where our transport to Quito already awaits us and arrive in the capital in the afternoon.
