PP1    EASY DOES IT

This five day adventure is suited to anyone in any decent physical shape and state of mind. Although it represents our easiest adventure trip, it does not lack in excitement and great scenery awaits you. The activities on the program are horseback riding, mountain biking, jungle hiking, river kayaking and cave exploring and take place in the Eastern Cordillera of the Andes and in the Amazon regions.

Day 1
We start our adventure by driving from Quito to Baņos along the aptly named Avenue of Volcanoes as on a clear day many active and older, passive volcanic peaks can be seen and admired. Baņos itself is located at the foot of the active Tungurahua, which provides us with possible exciting eruptions at day and night depending on the present day activity level of this gigantic volcano. In the afternoon we undertake a trip on horseback into the vicinity of Baņos with great views to the fumaroles emitting volcanic peak. After this outing and diner in town we undertake a small hike at night to observe again the volcano with possible lava eruptions creating natural fireworks lightning the night.

Day 2   In the morning we change horses, from the four-legged living ones to the  two-wheeled mechanical ones for some mountain biking fun. We start in the morning and leaving Baņos behind, move down the narrow Pastaza gorge, famous for its many waterfalls. Some can be observed from the road, to others we have to hike to. At noon we finish our excursion and have lunch in Rio Negro. After returning the bikes to Baņos we continue on to the Amazonian basin till we reach Puerto Misahualli, a small jungle village situated at the Alto Napo.

Day 3   After breakfast we leave by motorized canoe and move downriver to a jungle lodge, where we spend the next two nights. After settling in, we undertake a longer hike through the jungle to get to know some of the amazing plants and animals of a primary tropical rainforest. Highlights include a gigantic ceibo tree, which can reach up heights of over 45m.  (L,D)

Day 4    After breakfast we undertake another hike into a higher lying rainforest area and get to know other plants and animals. After lunch the canoe takes us and our kayaks upriver, from where we start our river kayaking excursion (in case you are not familiar with that sport, we can substitute that by floating down on a balsa raft). We move rapidly downriver with the currents till we reach again the lodge. Not finished yet with today's adventures, after diner we go for a short but exhilarating night hike through the forest. New sounds await us as night active animals start their activities.  (B,L,D)

Day 5    At six in the morning we return to Puerto Misahualli by boat and after breakfast there, we continue on by van and stop at the huge cave complex of Jumandy, where we explore those caves. Right in the beginning we have to swim partly to reach the deeper inside of the caves. Bats hang from the ceilings as they rest in the daytime in the dark shade. After that adventure we continue on and arrive finally in Quito later in the afternoon where we end our adventures.
