D6 PAPALLACTA Papallacta is a small village, located at 3300m high up in the Eastern Cordilleras on the road which leads into the Amazon jungle and boasts of the best Hot Springs in the country. On the drive there we also stop at a place where condors can occassionally be observed and later on at a pass of 4000m from where the majestic glaciers and high peaks of Antisana can be admired. 9.00 a.m.: We drive through Quito, passing its suburbs down in the valley and head due east to Pintag. From there we take the road going up the pass but before reaching it we stop at a place, where Condors can be seen in the wild. 10.30 a.m.: After our stop we continue the road up the mountain range which leads into the Amazon forest. After one hour we arrive at the Virgen of Paramo, the pass at 4000m. There we halt for a while to enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains with the Antisana glacier as its jewel. 11.00 a.m.: We, then, descend straight to Papallacta where we arrive after another half hour drive. The afternoon we enjoy and relax in the exceptional hot mineral waters of this famous Hot Springs. In this tourist complex you various pools at your disposal, from very hot to not so hot ones. There is also a small river with cold water beside it where you might take refreshing dips. 3.00 p.m.: We return to Quito, where we arrive after 2 hours.
