C2 ANDES This Enduro motorcycle trip of 5 days leads us through the Andes mountains, passing through the central valley and the cloudforest reigons of the Western Cordilleras. This tour covers approximately 900 km and is not for beginners but for more for advanced riders as the 70 % off-road portion is challenging with many winding dirt roads and sand tracks . Day 1 Before we start our tour we have a orientation session, speaking about safety issues and other aspects so we have all a safe trip. Then we start out on the first leg of our trip, where we cover around 200 km through the central valley to Otavalo. Once we arrive Otavalo we visit the famous Indian market on the Plaza del Poncho, where you have time to do some shopping and admire the many displayed handicrafts. We spend the night in Otavalo. Day 2 After breakfast we drive from Otavalo to the crater lake of Cuicocha, where we stop for breathtaking views of this water filled caldera at the foot of Cotacachi volcano. Then on secondary roads we drop down to El Intag and later continue on towards Nanegalito. The trails lead down steeply the Western Cordilleras till we reach the main road Los Bancos - Calacali which takes us to Mindo, where we spend the second night. Day 3 From Mindo we continue south along the flanks of the Western Cordilleras till we reach Alluriquin, where we start descending up the Toachi river to Sigchos. We continue on then to Chuchiglan, located at 3200m. We spend the next night in this small Andean village. Day 4 Today we descend higher till we reach the Quilotoa crater lake, situated already at 3800m. We stop there to admire this beautiful lake and drive then to Zumbahua. From there we take the road leading down again to the central valley and Latacunga. We reach an altitude of almost 4000m on this stretch. Our last night on this tour is spent in Day 5 On the last day we drive on secondary roads around Tungurahua, catching great views of this active volcano with possible eruptions and emissions of ash and fumaroles.. Afterwards we turn north again towards Latacunga, where we stop for lunch. Later on we move on to the Ilinizas, two high peaks side b y side, left after volcanic explosions. After exploring the park we head back to Quito, where our excursion through the Andes ends.
