 Day 5 - 10
(Laguna Verde - Barrancas Blancas)

Day 5:  On the way we stop to admire the first 6000m plus peaks of the Tres Cruces range.

Rio Lamas is the the only river found on our journey. The green beside it contrasts strangely with the arid surroundings.

Later on we get our first glimpse of the world's highest volcano Ojos del Salado, our main goal of this excursion.

Another great sight awaits us at Laguna Verde, where we stay the next two days on our excursion.

Taking advantage of the hot springs, some take a bath and pose for the camera as others dare not.

.... Day 6:  Hiking around the lake with its salt-crusted shores gives good views again to the nearby volcanoes.

Day 7:  Today's hike takes us up to Mulas Muertas, which separates the two camp sites.

On the trail we are awarded by great views and even some flowers can be found among the rocks.

Reaching our camp at the Murray refuge, where we stay for the next few days to continue our acclimatization.

Day 8: This day of rest gives us a chance to admire the scenery where the same volcano may show many facets.

Day 9:  Coming down from our first adventure over 6000m we are awarded by another beautiful sunset.
