Sea Lions are found on all islands in the archipelago and number in the
ten thousands. |
|
The Galapagos sea lion is related to the California sea lion and are
encountered, relaxing and
sleeping after hunting for fish in
the sea waters. Females have most often one pup a year and nurse it for the first half
year, till the pup learns then to fish for itself. |
|
Blue-footed Boobies nest year-round on the island and in time of
courtship perform various displays like dancing, bowing, wing spreading,
etc.. |
|
The magnificent frigate birds, larger of the two frigate species, also
nest on this small island but instead of dancing and other displays, the
males sitting on nests built by them, show off their inflated red pouch
to attract females. |
|
The vegetation is very sparse and trees often appear dead without any
leaves but they will get green for a short time in the rainy season. |
|
North Seymour as seen from the air is a small and flat island created by
an uplift of land and is not like many other larger islands
the eroded top of a volcano. |
