Darwin
Bay is the only sandy
beach found in the caldera on Genovesa.
Sea lions frequent the sand beaches and masked boobies do not seem to
mind the tourists.
Colonies of the Great Frigates are found along the beach. Male exhibit
their red balloon pouch to females for hope of a match.Great Frigates are smaller than the Magnificent Frigatesand show a greenish sheen on their back.
Red-footed boobies nest in the trees in contrast to the other two booby
species which do so on the ground. Adults
have a blue bill and are light brown but 5% of the population have a
white body.

Mocking Bird with
its feet tagged and Large Cactus finch are found on the ground and in
the trees along the trail.
In the sandy parts of the
shore, Sea Lions
rest and play in the waters. In the mating season the big male bulls
defend a stretch of some 20 meters as their territory towards the sea.
Caution is advised then for swimmers as they are known to get aggressive and may even
bite humans getting too close.
