Darwin Bay is the only sandy beach found in the caldera on Genovesa.
Sea lions frequent the sand beaches and masked boobies do not seem to mind the tourists.
Colonies of the Great Frigates are found along the beach. Male exhibit their red balloon pouch to females for hope of a match. Great Frigates are smaller than the Magnificent Frigates and show a greenish sheen on their back.
Red-footed boobies nest in the trees in contrast to the other two booby species which do so on the ground. Adults have a blue bill and are light brown but 5% of the population have a white body.

Lone Sea Lion resting peacefully in a sandy cove.

Mocking Bird with its feet tagged and Large Cactus finch are found on the ground and in the trees along the trail.
In the sandy parts of the shore, Sea Lions rest and play in the waters. In the mating season the big male bulls defend a stretch of some 20 meters as their territory towards the sea. Caution is advised then for swimmers as they are known to get aggressive and may even bite humans getting too close.
