RESERVES

Ecuador tries to protect its diverse fauna and flora but it is not easy for a poor country to do that.

Pululahua Geo-botanical Reserve

	The main entrance to the El Angel reserve is located at El Voladero, 20 km north of El Angel, the town on the old highway from ibarra to Tulcan.

	Espeletia pycnophylla hartwegiana belongs to the Asteraceas and has soft and hairy leaves and a flower head similar to sunflowers.

	Frailejones, the common name for those plant itions they reminded people of monks in frocks.

	A huge part of the region got burned killing most plants though the taller frailejones seem to have survived the fire.
