A very diverse bird population exists in Ecuador.

Ecuador tries to protect its diverse fauna and flora but it is not easy for a poor country to do that.

 





 

Inter-Andean Valley Pictures  




 

Most forests were cut down to create agricultural fields and pastures.
Guandera is one forest still left in the mountains. At 3500m it boats of clusia trees covered with epiphytes.
Wherever the terrain allows, larger grain fields got established over the years.
Amaryllidaceas
growing from bulbs.


Cajophora sp. growing in the higher mountain regions.
The plant blooms only once in its lifetime and that can take sometimes up to 20 years.



Eucalyptus, native to Australia is nowadays the most important and abundant tree in the Andean valleys.
Those vines are
very visible and
belong to the Bomarea family.


Wild Fuchsia grow abundantly in the valleys.
Commonly known as pato, a shrub which grows in the higher altitudes.


Guantug or Trumpet Flower, a medicinal and hallucinogenic shrub.
Corn is the major crop in the Andes.


Cattle are the dominant animals now in the Andes.
