Our own expeditions into the Amazon rainforest are more for the
adventurous people who do not mind little comfort and some hardship to enjoy
uninhabited river regions with virgin tropical rainforests and
undisturbed primary vegetation and wild animals.
The best way to see larger mammals, reptiles and birds are in a boat
moving along rivers or lagoons as this gives better unobstructed views.
Once in the forest
it is very difficult to observe them as most animals make their home in
the higher tree tops and hide or flee when approached.
Thus, most time on our excursions is spent on the waters but we
undertake several hikes into the forests to get to know the huge trees and other plants
(click to
tour.amazon pictures). Also for people
interested in particular subjects, we can put tours together in that
regard.
Tour Programs:
Our trips always start in Quito and end there again by driving by van
or jeep to
Coca, the starting point of all our adventure programs.
We combine the
drive with sightseeing at places like Jumandy Caves, San Rafael Waterfalls or
Papallacta
Hot Springs. In Coca we stay in a small hotel, getting ready for the
excursions. Once on the river, we move by motorized canoe from one place
to another, putting up tents in the evening for staying there in camps overnight.
Breakfast and dinner are cooked meals and for lunch we serve some
smaller cold snacks. Drinking water will also be supplied. Group sizes
are ideally from 2 - 6 persons but we could arrange for somehow larger
groups.
We offer you five unique rainforest expeditions, which still can be
further individualized to your wishes and interests.
The 7-day trip to
Paņacocha
is our easiest tour and leads to a beautiful region of
rivers and lagoons. It is suitable for most people, who do not mind
sleeping in tents and is especially interesting for birders as the
region has a diverse and healthy bird population.
Another big
attraction are the presence of river dolphins.
Our next excursion is a 10-day round trip, called
Tiputini adventure.
We start south of Coca on the river Tiputini and move downriver till we
reach the mighty Napo. Then we visit the Yasuni river and Jatuncocha
Lagoon before turning back upriver on Napo to reach Coca again. This trip gives ample opportunity to
see many birds and larger mammals along the river
and plenty of fish to
catch. Part of the trip leads through the Yasuni National Park, a mostly
uninhabited and undisturbed region.
Our next adventure tour is our 11-day
Yasuni
expedition, taking
place on the Shiripuno, Cononaco and Tiguino rivers in the National Park of
Yasuni. There we go out especially looking for larger wildlife, like tapirs,
anacondas and jaguars. Another attraction is a mud feeding
place, where hundreds of parrots gather daily.
Our
Cocha Lakes
expedition is ideally suited for people who like to capture wildlife on
pictures or films as we visit three lagoon regions. Lakes give
unobstructed views to tree tops where most of wildlife is concetrated.
Also in this open environment the unique rainforest scenery may be
captured.
Our last trip is the 21-day boat trip from Coca to
Iquitos, Peru. We
start in the small Shiripuno
river, moving then to the bigger Cononaco. At the border with Peru we turn into the Curaray and later to the Napo and finally we reach the
mighty Amazon at Iquitos.
On the way back moving upriver on the Napo we visit a few side rivers and
lagoons.
Note:
Clicking on the individual tours gives you an idea of the programs but you
always have to be prepared for changes.
Low level rivers clogged with dead
wood sometimes hinder passage or if the water level of the rivers are too high,
former tent sites on sandbanks do not exist anymore and we have to look
for alternatives.
In the price you find on the individual tour pages are included
transport from Quito to Coca and back, hotel stays in Coca (and Iquitos), transport in
motorized canoe, all food and water while in the forest, accommodation in tents, native guide and
English speaking translator.
Not included are your personal gear (see below), park entrance
and indigenous community fees and food while residing in Coca (or Iquitos) and during drive Quito - Coca,
where there is access to public restaurants.
Note: If you are interested in visiting other
Amazon regions
or have special interests in getting to know certain indigenous groups
or observe particular plants or animals, write us and we will see if we
can set something up for you.
What to
bring on our Adventure tours:
- Sleeping mat and sheets or very light sleeping bag
- Light but long sleeved clothing
- Change of clothes, towel and larger garbage bag for storing all

comes your way. |
